The geoeffectiveness of TIE-GCM simulations of ionospheric critical frequency foF2 at the equatorial station of Thiruvananthapuram in the Indian sector

An extensive intercomparison of ionospheric foF2 observations and NCAR Thermosphere-Ionosphere Electrodynamics General Circulation Model (TIE-GCM) simulations has been carried out for the dip equatorial location Thiruvananthapuram. Ionosonde measurements geomagnetically quiet days 2002, 2006 2008, representing solar maximum, minimum deep conditions have used analysis. In general TIE-GCM reproduced temporal seasonal characteristics over Thiruvananthapuram reasonably well all three activity conditions. Seasonally difference between measured simulated tended to be higher during winter (maximum 25%). Additionally, it is found that not reproducing reduction in values noon hours i.e. bite out, which very prominent predominantly 2002. A detailed analysis revealed that, there good agreement modeled whole observation period, with an R value 0.81. From comparison clear model underestimates but periods when prominent, gives estimation. The comprehensive comparisons different shown peak densities lies range of. 10 −25%.
